A biocide is a chemical substance, such as a pesticide, which is capable of killing different forms of living organisms. The use of lethal biological agents in warfare and terrorism is a real threat. New technologies are required to protect soldiers and civilian emergency responders from these insidious weapons. Passive barriers provided by coatings and textiles are simply insufficient in protecting against the transmission of biological pathogens.
